KABUL, July 9 (Xinhua) -- A three-day exhibition showcasing Afghanistan's agricultural and industrial output kicked off Wednesday in Ghazni, the provincial capital of eastern Ghazni province, to bolster local industries and curb reliance on imports, the country's Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced.
Farmers, livestock owners, and businesspeople from Ghazni and surrounding provinces display their products, including agricultural goods, handicrafts, food items, and locally manufactured goods, to boost local businesses and encourage consumption of domestic goods, according to the ministry's statement.
The event forms part of the Afghan government's broader drive to revive its economy through trade and investment, following a week-long industry and mining exhibition that ended on Tuesday in the capital Kabul, which generated more than 1 billion U.S. dollars in business deals and memorandums of understanding.
Afghan authorities view such platforms as critical instruments for reducing import dependency, generating employment, and showcasing the country's productive capacity amidst persistent economic headwinds. ■
