ATHENS, July 9 (Xinhua) -- 11 people were injured, three of them critically, after a major fire broke out on Thursday at a factory in Aspropyrgos, an industrial town west of the Greek capital, Greek national broadcaster ERT reported.
Three of the injured were intubated and remained in critical condition in hospital. According to the report, the blaze destroyed the factory, where a truck carrying a propane tank was parked when the fire broke out.
Authorities urged residents to evacuate to the central town as thick smoke spread across the area.
A major firefighting operation was launched to prevent the blaze from affecting nearby industrial facilities. A total of 75 firefighters, assisted by a helicopter, were deployed to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. ■
