KUWAIT CITY, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait's air defenses intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles and 13 drones after they entered the country's airspace before dawn on Wednesday, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said.
It said on social media platform X that the incoming missiles and drones have all been neutralized without causing any casualties.
It also released updated figures showing that since the start of the latest round of regional conflict, Kuwait's air defenses have intercepted 383 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 906 drones.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the latest Iranian attack as violating Kuwait's sovereignty and international law, and undermining regional and international de-escalation efforts.
It reaffirmed Kuwait's right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its security and stability.
Following the Kuwaiti military's report of missile and drone interception, Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said on X that shrapnel from the recent attack damaged several overhead power lines, although the impact did not disrupt electricity services.
Earlier in the day, the ministry said electricity had been fully restored to all residential areas affected by temporary overnight power outages after work on the damaged overhead power lines was completed. It added that electricity supply had since resumed nationwide.
The developments came as the United States and Iran traded fresh attacks from Tuesday night to Wednesday amid a new round of escalation of regional tensions.
The United States has launched strikes against 80 Iranian targets allegedly in response to recent Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Later, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps attacked 85 U.S. military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait. ■
