TEHRAN, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz and strike twice as many targets given any fresh U.S. attack, Iran's Press TV reported Wednesday, citing an informed source.
It reported that Iran will not allow any new route to be established outside its own arrangements of the strait per a recently signed peace memorandum of understanding, and that Iran "does not differentiate between U.S., regional partners."
The report came after U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier in the day in Ankara on the sidelines of the NATO summit that the United States may hit Iran again "hard tonight," resume a naval blockade against Iran in the strait, and possibly take over Iran's Kharg Island.
The United States and Iran have already traded attacks from Tuesday night to Wednesday, marking a new round of escalation. ■
