KABUL, July 8 (Xinhua) -- A miner lost his life after the tunnel of a coal mine collapsed in Samangan province, northern Afghanistan on Tuesday afternoon, provincial police spokesman Hashmatullah Rahmani said Wednesday.
The deadly accident took place in Dara-e-Sufi Bala district when the ill-fated man was busy extracting coal from the mine, the official said, adding the police personnel based in the area recovered the body and handed it to his family.
A similar accident claimed one life and injured another in the same district several months ago.
Deficiency of modern machinery in extracting mines, lack of safety measures, illegal extraction and lack of skills of workers often claim the lives of miners in Afghanistan. ■
