KABUL, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan government has approved a five-year electricity development plan to expand domestic power generation and strengthen the country's energy infrastructure, according to a statement issued by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs on Tuesday.
The plan includes dozens of projects to generate electricity from hydropower, solar, wind and coal, as well as the construction and expansion of power transmission lines, substations and electricity distribution networks across the country, the statement said.
The plan aims to reduce Afghanistan's reliance on imported electricity, enhance energy security and strengthen the role of the country's power sector in supporting economic development, the statement added. ■
