MADRID, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Real Sociedad has extended coach Pellegrino Matarazzo's contract by one year, keeping the American at the Spanish club through June 2028.
The 48-year-old, who took charge midway through last season and oversaw a dramatic turnaround in fortunes, had been under contract until June 2027.
"Real Sociedad and Pellegrino Matarazzo have reached an agreement to prolong the contract that united both parties until the end of the 2027-28 season," the club said Tuesday on social media.
Matarazzo replaced Sergio Francisco in December 2025, with Real Sociedad battling near the bottom of the La Liga standings.
He guided the club to victory in the Copa del Rey, securing qualification for next season's UEFA Europa League and the Spanish Super Cup, while comfortably steering the team clear of relegation. ■
