BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhua) -- China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Monday activated a Level-IV emergency response for flood control for the provinces of Anhui and Shandong, according to a statement made by the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM).
According to meteorological authorities, from Monday to Tuesday, heavy rain is expected in parts of northern-central Anhui Province and central-southern Shandong Province, the MEM statement said.
Some areas in northern Anhui and southern Shandong may experience torrential rain, according to the statement. Hourly rainfall in these areas is forecast to range from 30 to 60 millimeters, with some areas potentially exceeding 90 millimeters.
On Sunday, the headquarters and the MEM convened a joint consultation with multiple departments, noting that affected by Typhoon Maysak, heavy rainfall will continue across south China and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Rainfall is forecast to become more frequent and intense across northern China.
China has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level I being the most severe. ■
