MADRID, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Valencia has extended coach Carlos Corberan's contract through June 2028, with the club describing the former West Bromwich Albion manager as the ideal person to lead its long-term sporting project.
The one-year extension rewards the Valencia-born coach, who took charge in December 2024 with the club facing relegation and has since guided it to safety in each of the past two seasons. Valencia narrowly missed out on European qualification after finishing ninth in the 2025-26 campaign.
"Valencia CF have reached an agreement for the renewal of our head coach, Carlos Corberan, until 2028," the club said in a statement.
"The club have extended the coach's contract by one additional year, a decision aimed at consolidating the foundations of the sporting project with the conviction that Carlos Corberan is the right person to lead the team's growth over the coming seasons."
Valencia added that the decision had "the full backing" of club president Kiat Lim and CEO of football Ron Gourlay.
Since taking over, Corberan has overseen 67 matches in all competitions, compiling a record of 28 wins, 17 draws and 22 defeats. ■
