ALGIERS, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Algeria's ruling National Liberation Front (FLN) won the largest number of seats in the North African country's National People's Assembly (lower house of parliament), securing 90 seats in Thursday's parliamentary elections, according to provisional results announced Monday.

The National Democratic Rally came in second with 73 seats, followed by the Front of the Future with 59 seats, the Movement of Society for Peace with 43 seats, and the National Construction Movement with 38 seats, Karim Khalfan, acting head of the Independent National Electoral Authority, told a press conference in Algiers.

Independent candidates won 32 seats, while the remaining 72 seats went to other parties and electoral lists, Khalfan said.

The turnout inside Algeria reached 21.2 percent, with about 4.2 million valid ballots cast, he said, adding that the turnout outside Algeria stood at 10.8 percent, with 79,180 valid ballots cast.

The provisional results remain subject to review by the Constitutional Court, which is responsible for examining appeals and electoral disputes before announcing the final official results in accordance with Algeria's electoral procedures.
