KABUL, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Around 165,000 individuals have been working in more than 1,300 plants in western Afghanistan's Herat province, reported the official Bakhtar News Agency on Sunday.

Describing Herat as one of the largest industrial areas in the post-war country, the state-owned media outlet added that around 165,000 people have been employed by over 1,350 factories in Herat to earn their livelihood.

Working eight hours daily and receiving reasonable salaries to support their families, the workers have been working in factories producing foodstuff, medicine, textiles, and other essential items, Bakhtar further said.

A variety of factories, including textile and pharmaceutical firms as well as food, confectionery and beverage producers, are operating in the province's industrial park, with the number of factories and private-sector investment continuing to rise, officials said.
