WASHINGTON, July 5 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhang Jiale produced a career-best throw of 77.94 meters on her final attempt to upset Olympic champion and two-time world champion Camryn Rogers of Canada and claim the women's hammer throw title at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene on Saturday.

The victory marked the 19-year-old Chinese athlete's first Diamond League title, while her winning mark also improved her personal best from 77.24m.

Zhang, the 2025 World Athletics Rising Star Award winner, was the youngest athlete in the nine-woman field. Born in October 2006, she continued her rapid rise after winning bronze on her World Championships debut in Tokyo last year with a throw of 77.10m, where Rogers captured the gold medal.

In Eugene, Zhang moved into second place after the opening three rounds, trailing Rogers, who led the competition with 77.81m.

Rogers was unable to improve on her final attempt, but Zhang delivered under pressure, launching the hammer 77.94m with her last throw to snatch victory by 13 centimeters.

Rogers settled for second, while American DeAnna Price finished third on 76.95m.

China's Zhao Jie, the Asian record holder in the event, placed fifth with a best throw of 75.63m.
