BUENOS AIRES, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The Argentine government announced a reorganization of its ministries Friday, abolishing the Interior Ministry and transferring its responsibilities to the Cabinet Chief's Office.

The decision was made through emergency decree 571/2026 signed by President Javier Milei and his cabinet.

With the change, Argentina now has eight ministries: Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship; Defense; Economy; Justice; National Security; Health; Human Capital; and Deregulation and State Transformation.

The decree released Friday also created the Presidential Spokesperson's Secretariat and the Communication and Media Secretariat, both under the presidency.

The government also established two new deputy chief positions within the Cabinet Chief's Office: deputy cabinet chief and deputy cabinet chief for interior affairs, in order to distribute the new responsibilities arising from the administrative overhaul.

Under emergency decree 574/2026, the executive branch accepted Guillermo Devitt's resignation as secretary for strategic affairs and appointed him as deputy cabinet chief.

The emergency decree 575/2026 appointed Gustavo Coria as deputy cabinet chief for interior affairs after accepting his resignation as interior secretary.
