SOFIA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria will impose reservations on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced on Friday during a plenary session of parliament in Sofia.

"I will take this step because I protect and uphold Bulgaria's national interest," Radev said.

Responding to a parliamentary question, he stressed that the move would not weaken Bulgaria's ties with its allies.

"I can categorically assure you that there has been no wavering in the positions of our partners and allies on Bulgaria as a result of my actions," the prime minister said, adding that Bulgaria maintains excellent relations with the European Union and NATO.

He also noted that he has recently held meetings and visited countries such as Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.

Radev also expressed his support for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. "We will do everything possible to help rebuild Ukraine. This is a cause that both I and the Bulgarian government support," he said.

Radev said he would not support documents and declarations that, in his opinion, do not contribute to resolving the conflict but only deepen it.

The European Commission has proposed the 21st package of sanctions against Russia on June 9, targeting key sectors including energy, financial services, crypto, trade and, for the first time, fisheries. The proposal requires approval by all EU member states before it can enter into force.
