JAKARTA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, known as Whoosh, served 184,740 foreign passengers during the first half of 2026, operator PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) said on Friday.
Eva Chairunisa, KCIC general manager for corporate secretary, said Malaysia was the largest source of foreign passengers during the January-June period, contributing 74,902 travelers.
KCIC attributed the strong number of Malaysian passengers to the growing flow of Malaysian tourists visiting Bandung for leisure, shopping, and culinary tourism.
From the beginning of operations in October 2023 through June 2026, Whoosh has carried a cumulative 866,458 foreign passengers, data showed.
Whoosh, Southeast Asia's first high-speed railway, operates at speeds of up to 350 km per hour, reducing travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from around four hours to about 45 minutes. ■
