MANILA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine Office of the Ombudsman on Friday filed a plunder case against Senator Rodante Marcoleta before the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan.
According to the Ombudsman, Marcoleta allegedly received 75 million pesos (over 1.2 million U.S. dollars) in undeclared campaign donations while serving as a congressman. The donations were allegedly not disclosed in the required 2025 Senate election and government filings.
The filing of the case came amid a three-day protest that concluded Thursday and expressed support for Marcoleta after the Ombudsman earlier announced it would pursue a plunder case against him.
The senator denied the allegations and said the case was politically motivated. ■
