TEHRAN, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) on Thursday said that its forces had smashed a "separatist terrorist" group associated with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan in the northwestern province of West Azarbaijan, killing all five members.

In a statement on its official news outlet Sepah News, the IRGC said the separatist group's members were ambushed near the country's northwestern border in Piranshahr County on Wednesday.

It added the group's members had entered Iran to perpetrate "acts of terror and sabotage," stressing that they were identified following intelligence monitoring by the provincial forces.

According to the IRGC, different kinds of weapons and equipment were seized from the "terrorists."

The Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, designated as a terrorist group by Iran, is based in Iraq's Kurdistan Region.
