KABUL, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have launched construction of three new health centers in southern Helmand province as part of efforts to expand access to essential medical services in the war-affected region, the country's Ministry of Public Health announced on Thursday.
The projects, valued at a total of 72 million afghanis (more than 1.13 million U.S. dollars), will serve residents in the districts of Nad Ali, Grishk, and Sangin, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
This development is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery for thousands of residents living on the outskirts of these districts.
The initiative forms part of a broader Afghan government strategy to establish at least one healthcare facility in every district across Afghanistan, aiming to strengthen the public health system in a country still recovering from decades of conflict. ■
