ISLAMABAD, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's consumer price index (CPI) inflation eased slightly to 11.1 percent year on year in June from 11.66 percent in May, official data showed on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis, CPI inflation declined by 0.3 percent in June, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The PBS said the easing was mainly driven by lower transport costs following a decline in motor fuel prices, as well as reduced prices of some food items, although increases in the prices of vegetables, wheat products and other essentials continued to keep inflation elevated.
The data showed that urban inflation stood at 11.2 percent year on year in June, compared with 10.9 percent in rural areas. On a monthly basis, urban prices fell by 0.5 percent, while rural prices remained unchanged.
During the July 2025 to June 2026 period, average inflation was recorded at 7.05 percent, compared with 4.49 percent during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the PBS said. ■
