MADRID, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid captain Jorge Resurreccion, known as Koke, has signed a new contract that will allow him to continue setting appearance records for the club where he has spent his entire career.

The 34-year-old has agreed to remain at Atletico for another season, until the end of the 2026-2027 campaign, which is due to kick off on the weekend of August 16.

Koke already holds the record for the most appearances for Atletico Madrid, having played 740 times for the club he joined as a schoolboy, putting him well ahead of goalkeeper Jan Oblak on 538 and Antoine Griezmann, who left Atletico at the end of last season after playing 501 times.

The midfielder has scored 50 goals and provided 122 assists in that time and showed last season that age has not yet caught up with him, making 56 first-team appearances, more than any other outfield player at the club.

He has also been capped 70 times for the Spanish national team.

"Koke will continue to make history with Atletico Madrid after renewing his contract with the club until the end of June 2027. In this way, our captain will continue to defend our red and white throughout the 2026-27 season," confirmed the Atletico Madrid website on Wednesday.
