TOKYO, July 1 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 struck off Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan on Wednesday, the country's weather agency said.
The temblor occurred at 9:08 p.m. local time off Iwate's eastern coast at a depth of about 40 km, measuring 4 on Japan's seismic intensity scale of 7 in parts of Aomori and Iwate prefectures, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The quake's epicenter was located at a latitude of 40.1 degrees north and a longitude of 142.4 degrees east.
No tsunami warning was issued, the JMA said. ■
