BEIRUT, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army has installed crossing gates along the border and continued military activities in southern Lebanon, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported Wednesday.

The gates were established between the so-called "yellow line," the border area, and the region south of the Litani River as part of military measures being implemented along the border, the NNA reported, adding that Israeli forces also opened fire on a vehicle, bulldozed a road, and cut down trees along the border area, causing extensive damage.

Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of several villages in southern Lebanon, and an Israeli drone flew at low altitude over the coastal city of Tyre, it added.

Separately, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Wednesday held a phone call with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who reaffirmed Greece's support for the Israel-Lebanon framework agreement and voiced readiness to assist Lebanon, particularly by supporting the Lebanese army, the NNA reported.

The agreement, signed Friday in Washington, includes an initial Israeli withdrawal from two areas in southern Lebanon and outlines steps toward a lasting ceasefire and de-escalation along the Lebanon-Israel border.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Israeli troops in southern Lebanon on Tuesday and said Israel would not withdraw from the area as long as Hezbollah remains "a threat."
