BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.5 percent to 4,094.4 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.48 percent higher at 16,205.56 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices reached 3.27 trillion yuan (about 480 billion U.S. dollars), down from 3.51 trillion yuan in the previous trading day.
Shares related to the laser industry, optics and optoelectronics, as well as semiconductors led the gains, while pharmaceutical commerce, agricultural planting and banking stocks were among the biggest decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.99 percent to close at 4,342.71 points Tuesday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 4.29 percent higher at 2,520.36 points on Tuesday. ■
