KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia has launched the Malaysia Digital 2030 (MD2030), an action plan setting ambitious targets to boost the digital economy's contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) to 30 percent and create 500,000 high-value jobs by 2030.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday unveiled the blueprint, positioning the Ministry of Digital as the lead agency responsible for driving the country's transition towards becoming an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered nation by 2030.

In a statement, the Digital Ministry said the plan aims to generate 4.5 billion ringgit (1.11 billion U.S. dollars) in public sector savings through government digitalization while ensuring that 95 percent of government services are delivered fully online.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said MD2030 marks a shift in Malaysia's development strategy from being a consumer of technology to becoming a producer of homegrown digital innovation.

The roadmap will be implemented through seven strategic pillars covering government, economy, infrastructure, talent, society, trust and security, and innovation.
