LHASA, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Before the opening of the Qinghai-Xizang Railway, Chogo, a photojournalist with Xinhua, took a photo in Damxung County on June 17, 2006. He captured herdswoman Pema Lhamo sitting with her daughter Nyima Lhamo as they watched the first train passing through the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
"I was three years old that year, but I will never forget the moment of seeing a train for the first time in my life," Nyima Lhamo recalled. At the age of 8, she fractured her hand and went with her family by train to Lhasa for medical treatment. In 2022, Nyima Lhamo took a train to Jiangsu Province in east China for further studies. Now, she works as a patient guide at a hospital back in Damxung.
Chogo's photo bears witness to Nyima Lhamo's growth and the profound changes the Qinghai-Xizang Railway has brought to the plateau over the past 20 years. The railway has resolved the long-standing difficulties of traveling out of Xizang and accessing education outside the region. Quality educational resources and medical services also flow into the plateau through the Qinghai-Xizang Railway.
