MINSK, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The temperature exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in Belarus on Monday, the first time in the entire history of meteorological observations in the country.
The temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius was recorded between 2 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. in the city of Pinsk, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection said.
Previously, the highest temperature ever recorded in Belarus was 38.9 degrees Celsius measured in Gomel on August 8, 2010.
Authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the intense heat. ■
