MADRID, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Malaga has extended the contracts of coach Juanfran Funes and attacking midfielder Dani Lorenzo following the club's promotion to La Liga.
Malaga booked its ticket back to the elite with a thrilling 2-1 win away to Almeria nine days ago, returning to Spain's top flight for the first time since relegation in 2018 and ending a period in which the club dropped as low as the third tier of the Spanish game.
Funes was promoted from Malaga's B team in November 2025 when the club was struggling against relegation and turned its fortunes around in remarkable style, winning 19 and drawing nine of his 33 games at the helm to end the regular season in fourth place in the Spanish second division before defeating Las Palmas and Almeria in the playoffs to secure a return to La Liga.
His contract has now been extended to the end of June 2029. ■
