ISLAMABAD, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces killed at least seven terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, security sources said.
The operation was conducted in Bannu district on Friday after security forces received credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists in a vehicle carrying weapons and explosive materials, the sources said.
Acting on the information, security forces targeted the suspected vehicle, which had been parked near a government school, using a quadcopter, according to the sources.
The vehicle was carrying a large cache of weapons, including a 12.7-millimeter machine gun, rocket-propelled grenades, and mortar shells.
The strike destroyed the vehicle, killing all the terrorists inside, the sources added.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant attacks in recent months, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighboring Balochistan provinces, where security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations against militant groups. ■
