NEW YORK, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The World Cup finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico are serving to highlight the excellent work carried out by a certain Premier League club last season.
Five players from the club so far have scored goals for five different countries in this summer's tournament.
Midfielder Habib Diarra was on target for Senegal in Friday's 5-0 win over Iraq, while Wilson Isidor scored in Haiti's 4-2 defeat to Morocco.
Veteran midfielder Granit Xhaka scored the final goal in Switzerland's 4-1 thrashing of Bosnia and Herzegovina while Ecuador's Nilson Angulo hit a brilliant shot to make it 1-1 against Germany as his country came from behind to claim a 2-1 win that took Ecuador into the last-32 of the competition.
Finally, Brian Brobbey has so far been one of the stars as the Netherlands impressed in the group stage.
Brobbey has three goals in three games in the World Cup and Sunderland could have to brace for offers from bigger clubs over the summer. ■
