NAIROBI, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The 2026 Seeing China: Hubei Media Week in Africa was launched on Friday in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi to foster stronger cultural and media ties between China and Kenya.
Senior government officials, diplomats, and heads of Chinese and Kenyan broadcasting organizations emphasized the need to strengthen Sino-Kenyan cooperation in media, film and the arts to deepen cultural understanding and friendship between the two countries.
David Mugonyi, director general of the Communications Authority (CA) of Kenya, said both China and Kenya share the belief that media and culture can bring people closer together.
Mugonyi noted that Hubei boasts a rich cultural heritage and a dynamic media industry, while Kenya has a vibrant broadcasting and creative sector, a young and digitally savvy population, and a strong tradition of storytelling.
"Bringing these strengths together can create valuable opportunities for our institutions, our professionals and our audiences," Mugonyi said in a speech read on his behalf by Jane Kinyanjui, deputy director for communications and stakeholder engagement at the CA.
He urged Kenyan and Chinese media organizations to explore content co-production, exchange high-quality audiovisual programs, and deepen technical cooperation to better tell their respective stories to each other's audiences.
Tang Jianjun, counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, noted that this is an important event under the framework of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
Tang noted that the media week will provide Chinese and Kenyan audiences with deeper insights into each other's cultures and development.
The event would further advance practical cooperation between the two countries and contribute to a flourishing global community where different civilizations appreciate one another and thrive in harmony, he added. ■
