BUDAPEST, June 26 (Xinhua) -- World Aquatics on Thursday unveiled the official logo, visual identity and slogan, "Make Waves!", for the Budapest 2027 World Aquatics Championships as it launched the one-year countdown to the event.

The championships will be held from June 26 to July 18, 2027, when Budapest becomes the first city to host the World Aquatics Championships three times, following the 2017 and 2022 editions.

Athletes from more than 200 countries and regions are expected to compete across all aquatic disciplines, with the championships also serving as a qualification event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Speaking at the launch ceremony at the MVM Dome, World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam said Budapest had repeatedly demonstrated its ability to stage world-class aquatic events and expressed confidence that the 2027 edition would build on the success of previous championships.

"The success of the 2017 and 2022 World Aquatics Championships, and the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m), showed the world what Budapest is capable of," he said.

Attila Kalnoki-Kiss, Hungarian State Secretary for Sport, said the championships would leave a lasting legacy beyond economic benefits by inspiring future generations of athletes. He cited Olympic champion Hubert Kos, who watched the 2017 championships from the stands as a young swimmer, saying the experience had helped shape his path to becoming one of Hungary's leading aquatic stars.

World Aquatics Executive Director Brent Nowicki said Budapest had established itself as one of the world's premier hosts for aquatic sports, adding that the federation's relocation of its headquarters to the Hungarian capital underscored the close partnership between World Aquatics and the city.
