ABU DHABI, June 26 (Xinhua) -- United Arab Emirates (UAE) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Friday discussed regional developments with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi over phone, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran.
The UAE official urged the full implementation of the MoU to ensure an immediate and comprehensive halt to hostilities in the region, the Emirates News Agency reported.
He called for respect for state sovereignty, adherence to international law and good neighborliness, and protection of maritime routes and freedom of navigation, including uninterrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the agency reported.
He added he hopes the ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations would produce positive results, contributing to lasting regional security and stability, it reported.
On June 18, Iran and the United States signed the MoU aimed at ending conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon, following which they have started negotiations on a final agreement. ■
