HANOI, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Prolonged heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms from Thursday evening to Friday in Vietnam's northern provinces of Cao Bang and Tuyen Quang left one person dead, another injured and caused widespread damage to houses, infrastructure and crops, the Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.
A woman was killed after being struck by lightning in Tuyen Quang province, while another person was injured when lightning struck a power line.
Torrential rain damaged about 20 houses and eroded several local roads in the province.
In Cao Bang province, more than 150 houses were flooded under up to 1 meter of water, while landslides and flooding cut off multiple roads linking villages and residential areas.
Local authorities are assessing the damage and carrying out response and recovery efforts. ■
