DAR ES SALAAM, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania is set to host the Fourth WMO International Workshop on Operational Climate Prediction (OCP-4) from June 29 to July 2 in the northern city of Arusha, the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) said in a statement on Thursday, adding that this marks the first time the event will be held in Africa.

Organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in collaboration with the TMA, the event underscores Tanzania's growing reputation for technical expertise and institutional capacity in advancing climate prediction and services, said the statement.

The workshop will gather around 90 experts from across the globe to explore how scientific climate data can be transformed into actionable insights for stronger decision-making, improved preparedness, and more resilient communities, according to the TMA.

According to the statement, aiming to address the full value chain of climate prediction from data production to decision-oriented services, OCP-4 will discuss ways to enhance prediction outputs, tailor products to user needs, and support anticipatory action in climate-sensitive sectors. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications will also feature prominently in the discussions.

The OCP series began in India in 2015, followed by Spain in 2018 and Portugal in 2022. The upcoming edition marks the first time the event will be held in Africa, the TMA added.
