KABUL, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan government has approved 16 projects with a total investment of 3.5 billion afghanis (more than 53.4 million U.S. dollars) to accelerate the development and reconstruction process of the post-war country, the office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs announced late Wednesday.
The projects were endorsed by the National Procurement Commission during a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, said the office, adding that the commission reviewed 40 proposals before granting approval to 16 priority projects.
The approved initiatives include a broad spectrum of strategic sectors, including the construction of water dams, cold-storage facilities, healthcare infrastructure, transportation terminals, road networks, electricity transmission and distribution systems, it said.
The office noted that all approved projects will be financed through the government's domestic budget, underscoring efforts to mobilize national resources for development and infrastructure expansion.
The latest approvals come as Afghanistan continues to pursue reconstruction and development initiatives aimed at revitalizing the economy and improving living conditions following decades of conflict and economic challenges. ■
