BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 25 (Xinhua) -- A new seafood processing plant project under Gropoint Sdn Bhd is set to begin following a groundbreaking ceremony, local media reported on Wednesday.
According to the Borneo Bulletin, the first phase of the Gropoint Seafood Processing Plant project will establish premium seafood processing capabilities for tuna and other seafood species, alongside fish meal and fish oil production facilities.
The proposed facility will serve as an integrated seafood processing platform focused on tuna and other value-added seafood products for regional and international markets.
Strategically located at Serasa, near the port town, the project is positioned at the gateway to the Western and Central Pacific Ocean, recognized as the world's largest tuna fishery, which supplies more than half of global tuna catches.
The location provides Brunei with a strategic advantage to develop into a regional hub for tuna landing, seafood processing and export activities. ■
