BUCHAREST, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Russia's decision to declare the Romanian consul general in St. Petersburg persona non grata and close the Consulate General was "predictable," Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.
The Romanian ministry confirmed that the country's ambassador to Russia was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday and was notified of the Russian decision.
"The reaction of the Russian side was predictable," the Romanian ministry said.
Bucharest said that Russia's latest move was a direct response to measures adopted by Romania on May 29, when Romanian authorities said a Russian drone crashed into the roof of a residential building in the Romanian city of Galati.
In response, Romanian President Nicusor Dan announced the decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Constanta and declared the Russian consul general persona non grata. ■
