HANOI, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Northern Vietnam's electricity demand is forecast to reach a new record of 32,000 megawatts on Thursday as an intense heatwave continues to grip the region, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Temperatures across the region ranged between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday, with some areas exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, while the perceived temperature could reach as high as 45 to 48 degrees Celsius, driving up power demand, according to the report.
The region's peak load surpassed 30,000 megawatts for the first time on Wednesday, reaching 30,209 megawatts at 10:15 p.m., up 14.2 percent year on year and 7.2 percent higher than the previous record set in 2025, the report said, citing the National Power System and Market Operator Company. ■
