COLOMBO, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Under the present administration, Sri Lanka has so far seized more than 10 tonnes of various narcotics, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake told the parliament Thursday.
Dissanayake said a total of 3,390 kg of heroin, 304 kg of cocaine, 5,543 kg of crystal methamphetamine (ice), 1,521 kg of Kush cannabis, 5,110,735 narcotic pills and 2,454,267 drug capsules were confiscated in law enforcement operations.
According to the president, 58 organized crime suspects had also been arrested abroad and extradited to Sri Lanka.
The president said corruption, organized criminal networks, drug trafficking and the links between crime and politics must be addressed decisively, adding that Sri Lanka already had the legal framework and state institutions needed to combat such activities. ■
