TOKYO, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Toyota Motor Corp. plans to reduce overseas production by around 100,000 vehicles through February 2027, widening its earlier cutbacks, the Nikkei reported Tuesday.
The Japanese automaker cited logistical disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict and weaker consumer demand driven by higher fuel prices as weighing on sales. The production cuts will mainly target gasoline-powered models destined for Middle Eastern and Asian markets.
Toyota had previously planned to cut overseas output by around 38,000 vehicles between May and November this year, but later widened the reduction to roughly 83,000 units for the June-November period.
The report said persistently high energy prices are dampening automobile sales, with some consumers postponing purchases and overall demand trending lower. ■
