KABUL, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Ground has been broken on a new 10-million-U.S.-dollar commercial center in Sharan city, capital of Paktika province in eastern Afghanistan, in a significant push to stimulate local economic activity and bolster private sector development, the official Bakhtar News Agency reported on Wednesday.
Spanning 34,000 square meters, the initiative is scheduled for completion within two years. It aims to generate fresh business opportunities, create employment, and provide modern commercial infrastructure for local traders and small enterprises, according to the report.
Upon completion, the privately funded facility will feature a wide array of business premises designed to accommodate merchants, facilitate trade, and improve market access across the province and neighboring provinces.
The initiative forms part of Afghan government's broader efforts to revitalize its economy through private investment and strategic infrastructure projects. ■
