HANOI, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The Political Bureau of the 14th Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee has approved a proposal to establish the northern province of Bac Ninh as a centrally governed city after reviewing a submission from the locality, local daily Nhan Dan reported Wednesday.
According to the Political Bureau's conclusion, the city will be formed on the basis of the current administrative boundaries of Bac Ninh province.
The Political Bureau envisioned Bac Ninh as a green, smart and modern city that combines economic development with cultural preservation and environmental protection, primarily driven by science, technology and innovation.
Vietnam currently has seven centrally governed cities, namely Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho. ■
