VIENTIANE, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Laos officially launched a Digital in Motion for Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) initiative, aimed at promoting the adoption and use of digital innovation to create new opportunities for individuals, businesses, and the broader socio-economic environment.
Speaking at the initiative's launching ceremony, Malaykham Philaphone, director general of the Department of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, emphasized that digital technology is rapidly transforming how people live, conduct business, and access public services. She noted that digital transformation is no longer optional but essential for socio-economic development.
She further highlighted that digital transformation is a key national priority for Laos, aimed at strengthening competitiveness, promoting innovation, and supporting inclusive and sustainable growth.
MSMEs account for 99.8 percent of all enterprises in Laos and provide employment for around 80 percent of the workforce. However, many still face challenges in transitioning to the digital economy, particularly in access to technology, digital skills, and financing. ■
