BEIJING, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.37 percent to 4,106.25 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.17 percent lower at 15,854.2 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices reached 3.44 trillion yuan (504.61 billion U.S. dollars), down by 296.4 billion yuan compared to the previous trading day.
Shares related to the pharmaceutical, humanoid robot, and phosphorus chemical sectors led the gains, while the non-ferrous metals sector saw major declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 3.84 percent to close at 4,192.19 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.31 percent lower at 2,278.73 points. ■
