RIO DE JANEIRO, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil captain Thiago Silva has returned to Fluminense on a free transfer after parting ways with Porto, the Brazilian club said on Monday.
The 41-year-old defender agreed to a contract that runs until December this year and will begin training with the first-team squad next week, Fluminense said in a statement on its official website.
"What seemed like a farewell was, in fact, a see-you-soon," the statement read. "Some stories never truly end."
Thiago made 14 appearances for Porto after joining the club on a six-month contract last December.
He has made 212 appearances and scored 19 goals over two spells for Fluminense.
Fluminense's next match will be against Bragantino in Brazil's Serie A on July 22. South America's main domestic and continental competitions have been paused to accommodate the FIFA World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19. ■
