ISLAMABAD, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met visiting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian here on Tuesday, discussing regional developments and ongoing efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the current regional situation and initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and fostering dialogue, according to a statement issued by Pakistan's military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations.

Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan's constructive and responsible role in encouraging dialogue and de-escalation, and acknowledged Islamabad's consistent efforts to support the peaceful resolution of disputes and promote understanding among regional stakeholders amid growing geopolitical challenges.

Munir reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability, emphasizing the country's support for dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the preferred means of addressing challenges.

The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and maintaining close consultations on issues of mutual interest, with the shared objective of advancing peace, prosperity and stability across the region.
