KABUL, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Works has signed a contract for the reconstruction of a 15-km section of the strategic Salang highway, the country's main transport corridor linking Kabul with nine northern provinces, the ministry said on Tuesday.
The project, valued at 1.252 billion afghanis (nearly 20 million U.S. dollars), will include asphalt paving and other infrastructure improvements aiming at enhancing the safety and efficiency of the route.
According to the ministry, the broader rehabilitation of the Salang Highway is being implemented in three sections: southern Salang, northern Salang, and the Khanjan-to-Doshi route. ■
