JUBA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan's warring parties must build the trust and political will needed to fully implement the security arrangements under the 2018 revitalized peace agreement, the country's ceasefire monitors said on Tuesday.

Teshome Anagawe Ayana, chairperson of the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), said these security measures are vital to safeguarding peace gains and ensuring the successful implementation of Chapter II of the peace agreement.

"The security situation across the country has not changed significantly and remains unpredictable, with prevailing conditions continuing to pose challenges to the full implementation of Chapter II of the revitalized peace agreement," Ayana said during a ceasefire monitors' meeting in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

According to Ayana, multiple security violations have occurred since May, including civilian killings and clashes between the South Sudan People's Defense Forces and the opposition Sudan People's Liberation Army-In-Opposition in the Western Bahr el Ghazal State, highlighting the volatile security environment and the urgent need for sustained confidence-building among the parties.

He urged all parties to demonstrate similar commitment by exercising restraint, engaging in constructive dialogue, and fully complying with the permanent ceasefire.

The CTSAMVM called on all parties to promptly report troop movements, mobilizations, and incidents to enable timely verification and de-escalation.
