GAZA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- A senior Hamas official on Tuesday accused Israel of returning Gaza ceasefire negotiations to square one by introducing new proposals, despite multiple negotiating papers submitted through mediators in recent months.
Taher al-Nunu, media advisor to the head of Hamas's political bureau, did not elaborate on the nature of the Israeli proposals.
In press remarks, he said Israel has implemented only a limited part of the proposed agreements while Palestinian factions have fulfilled most of their commitments.
He said Hamas would not agree to move to a new phase of negotiations before the full implementation of previous understandings, particularly those related to Israeli withdrawal and aid entry into Gaza.
Al-Nunu described Gaza's humanitarian situation as "catastrophic," accusing Israel of restricting aid to exert political pressure.
He said Israel continues to raise issues concerning Palestinian factions' weapons, tunnels and military capabilities during the negotiations, which he described as aimed at ending the Palestinian resistance.
His remarks came amid ongoing mediation efforts, including recent meetings in Cairo between Palestinian factions and mediators aimed at advancing the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
In mid-June, Palestinian factions submitted their official response to mediators regarding a roadmap for the second phase of the agreement.
The roadmap, presented by the U.S.-led Board of Peace, outlines mechanisms for Gaza's future, including reconstruction, disarmament, Israeli withdrawal, and deployment of an international peacekeeping force, among others. ■
