JAKARTA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government is preparing a vocational training program for 50,000 laid-off workers and 220,000 high school graduates in the second half of this year, according to the Ministry of Manpower.
"The internship and vocational training programs are important to improve workforce skills so workers are better prepared to meet industry needs," Minister of Manpower Yassierli said on Monday.
The government will allocate 6.26 trillion rupiah (about 350 million U.S. dollars) for the program as part of an economic stimulus package for the second half of the year.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the program is expected to support national economic growth by improving workforce quality. ■
